2026 was a big year.
It started with me finishing up Greg Stafford's long-expected novel, A Pyre for Gods and Heroes. This turned out to be a year-long project, and one that I am immensely proud and honored to have been a part of. I continued working on Pyre most of 2026, including recording the audiobook. I am wrapping up a little work on it all still.
Then came the release of
Lands of RuneQuest: Sartar, probably the official
RuneQuest product I have contributed the most to so far, including writing the accompanying four-act scenario,
Welcome to Boldhome. That adventure marks the first official RQ product I received sole authorship credit for.
Sartar turned out to be a beautiful book, gorgeously illustrated. I am particularly proud that it isn't just a re-hash of previous setting material. This is a Sartar specifically written for RuneQuest Roleplaying in Glorantha, set in the princedom after being liberated from the Lunar Empire. It includes details we haven't seen before, like a look at male and female adulthood initiations folded into the family history section, and the return of guilds tailored specifically for the setting.
Finally, on a personal note, 2026 marked the year that I left the teaching profession and returned to the United States after 26 years abroad. I came back just a bit over two weeks ago, to the mountains of upstate New York that inspired Black Stag Vale from Six Seasons in Sartar. I got settled, voted in the historic midterms election, and now am looking forward to my first American gaming convention...
